Game reviews? What about game criticism?

Play This Thing! Blog has posted an article calling for the serious criticism of games as an art form. The difference between that and what we have toady, reviews: buyer’s guides, and not much more. Serious criticism brings about deeper contexts, social and scientific, exploring the relevancy of game mechanics, rather that just letting potential buyers know if it was fun to play or not.

It is a form of media being consumed by a disgustingly high percentage of our younger population (m’self included), and if how it is made is taken more seriously, we can get some more serious content from the industry, just like the graphic novels moving from the standard super hero schlop has allowed for more mature content to flourish.
